Restaurants in Amsterdam: One of the great things of vacation is eating in a restaurant and you don't have to cook yourself. I'll show you some special places.
The Dutch kitchen is not worldfamous, but there are some things that you really should try when you visit Amsterdam. Click on this link if you want to learn something about Dutch food.

Eating outside
Amsterdam has a lot of places where you can eat outside. Here is a fun example. This summer the people and guests of Amsterdam can go to their own beach in the city. The location on the harbour side of the RAI and next to the Beatrixpark is perfect, whatever the weather. It has a genuine Mediterranean atmosphere in Amsterdam Zuid, with an à la carte menu and room for 140 diners. A unique parasol system - the first of its kind in the Netherlands - means they can completely cover and close off their two heated outdoor serving areas. Follow the signs "STRANDZUID" in the Amsterdam RAI-district to find it.

Fair trade
UMOJA is a “Fair Trade” restaurant. UMOJA is Swahili for ‘unity’, ‘solidarity’, ‘unification’ UMOJA is completely non-smoking. UMOJA uses high-quality, organic and (preferably) local fair trade products and ingredients that have been produced with respect for people, animals and the environment, and that promote a better environment and a better world. Fair trade means treating people, animals and the environment respectfully and responsibly. UMOJA would like producers to get an honest price for their products. Dining in Umoja means also help people in the third world. You can find it on the Amstelveense weg 154.

cheap restaurants
If you want to eat cheap, check out the Leidseplein district. The selection includes Greek, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and Indonesian food, as well as more traditional Dutch fare. Prices are competitive.

eetcafees
In Amsterdam there are a lot of dinnercafes(eetcafee in Dutch). At dinnertime you can have a good cheap meal and at night it is a bar. For example the Schutter: it is situated on a side street of the Spui, by the Amsterdam University, the Schutter is popular with students and young people in general. It has a reputation for good fresh food at very reasonable prices. you'll find it at Voetboogstraat 13.

Diningcafe De Toog, situated on the corner of the Nicolaas Beetsstraat just behind the Wilhelmina gasthuis grounds, has been a regular place for neighbours as wel as non-neighbours for already 10 years. The tables, decorated by Herman Brood (a famous Dutch artist), keep the interior between an old fashioned cafe and an artistcafe. The original ceilings give the place an authentic radiation. Eating here is very pleasant.

Dinnercafe "van Puffelen" is located on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. It is an unique combination of a real Dutch "brown" café and a fine restaurant. Wining, dining or just having a beer, it possible in this cosy place. Adress: Prinsengracht 377

Vegetarian
De Waaghals (The Dare Devils) is a modern, comfortable place, serving high quality vegetarian food made mainly from organic ingredients. It's a very popular place with local people so make sure to book a table in advance. In the summer there is also a terrace at the back. Unlike in the rest of Europe, vegetarians are well catered for in Amsterdam. Many excellent vegan and whole food eateries dot the canalsides of the Jordaan area while several of the larger squats have metamorphised into all-comer veggie canteens.

One of the most exclusive places in Amsterdam is situated on the 23th floor of the Okura hotel. It's called the "Ciel blue"restaurant and has two Michelin stars.

La Rive is one of the most famous cuisines in Holland. It has a tradition of haute cuisine, with excellent wines. You find it at Prof. Tulpplein 1.

On the first floor of the Okura hotel you'll find Yamazoto, a famous place to enjoy a authentic Japanese dinner. They serve over 50 Japanese specialities.It is situated on the Ferdinand Bolstraat 333.
