The Amsterdam Museums are famous for their quality collections. It's a real must do for every tourist that visits Amsterdam. Holland has a history of worldfamous painters. Rembrandt,Breughel and Vincent Van Gogh are a few.





The Nightwatch




The rijksmuseum is a very big building with about 5000 paintings of great Dutch painters. Rembrandt, Vermeer(from the movie:"the girl with the pearl earring" starring Scarlett Johansen), Frans Hals and Albert Cuyp(the famous Albert Cuypmarket is named after him). The big showpiece is the worldfamous "Nightwatch" by Rembrandt van Rijn. It's as big as the wall of a house.

The Museum of Vincent van Gogh is also very much-visited. Vincent van Gogh lived in the late 1900's. He was one of the most important impressionist painters. He lead a very tragic life. After a fight with the painter Gauguin, he cut of his own ear. In the end he shot himself. He lived both in Holland and in France during his life. Very famous are his paintings of sunflowers.






Stedelijk museum


The "Stedelijk Museum" (City Museum) is for people who like modern art. It has a collection including work of Picasso, Mondriaan, Monet, Cézanne and Matisse. It was build in 1895. The building itself is also interesting if you're into architecture.

The Amsterdams historisch museum(about the history of Amsterdam) is all about..... what else: the history of the city. That history begins in the 13th century. Amsterdam was still a fishing-village.

The Jewish historical museum tells the story of the jews in Amsterdam.Almost the entire jewish community got killed in worldwar 2. About that dark age you can learn a lot in the Anne Frankhouse.

Nemo

A quite new museum about science is Nemo. Buil like giant ship. It's very nice for children, but think the parents will love it to. It's a place where you can do experiments yourself.Five floors of exciting things to see and do.

The most unique of the amsterdam museums is the Hasj and marihuanamuseum.You can see the use of hemp(cannabis) trough the ages. You can also see how they cultivate hennep in the museum. Nowadays Amsterdam is famous because you can buy hasj legaly in the coffeeshops. It attracts many tourist from all over the world. You can find this museum on the Oudezijdsachterburgwal 48.
