Dutch food

Dutch food: Friet

Dutch food is made of mostly simple ingredients. On the streets you can buy french frites in a paper bag with mayonaise. Very Yummie!!!

Haring met uitjes: Holland is a country by the sea. Amsterdam was founded by fisherman. No wonder fish is a Dutch delicacy. You must really try a raw salted herring, with or without onions. It's really delicious. Dutch shrimps(not the Norwegian) and mussels are also available in most restaurants.

Pannenkoeken: Pancakes with "stroop" are very popular with the kids. There are special pancakerestaurants. There are pancakerestaurants that serve over 60 different pancakes.

Dutch food: boerenkool

Stamppot:Mashed potatoes with mashed vegetables(farmer cabbage or carrots with onions or acid cabbage) and smoked sausage. The Dutch eat this particulary in the winter. Peasoup(snert) is also eaten in the winter.

Dutch food: Kaas

Dutch cheese is very famous and very tasteful. The older the better. The cheese is always named after the city it comes from. Edammer, Leerdammer, Gouda are the most wellknown. A Dutch breakfast is not complete without bread with cheese.

Indonesian food Because Indonesia was a Dutch colonie until worldwar 2, the Indonesian food is almost eaten more often than the authentic food in Holland. It's very tastefull with all the Asian flavours. You should really try Nasi goreng(baked rice with meat and soja sauce). Or saté ajam or saté babi (meat on a stick with peanutsauce). When you order a "rijsttafel" you get all kind off litlle bowls with tasty things. There are some very good Indonesian restaurants in Amsterdam.
